Events and Communications Coordinator
Marion, originally from Germany, brings her many years of event coordination experience to keep Skin Cancer New Zealand’s programmes on track. She thrives on making complex events look effortless, from planning logistics to managing stakeholders across a range of sectors.

Chair
Susan is a General Surgeon based in Nelson, specialising in breast and skin oncological surgery. She helped establish and is an active member of their regional skin cancer service, completed a fellowship at the Melanoma Institute of Australia in 2009, and chairs the National Melanoma Working Group for the Aotearoa New Zealand Melanoma Clinical Guidelines.
Deputy Chair
Sam is a specialist GP working in skin cancer, holding professional diplomas in Skin Cancer Medicine, General Dermatology, and Dermoscopy. He is a founding member of the New Zealand Skin Cancer Doctors Society and a member of the Institute of Directors.
Abbie is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in skin cancer with 10 years’ experience across hospital, community, charity, and private sector care. She holds a Diploma in Dermoscopy, chairs the Skin Cancer Nurses’ Special Interest Group, and contributes to the National Melanoma Working Group for the Aotearoa New Zealand Melanoma Clinical Guidelines.
Alistair is a Consultant Dermatologist at the Skin Centre in Tauranga with public hospital roles across the region. He trained in the UK, completing a fellowship in Mohs surgery. Since returning to New Zealand, Alistair has contributed to the New Zealand Melanoma Clinical Guidelines and established a renal transplant skin cancer surveillance clinic.
Dan is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the Bay of Plenty with both public and private practice. He trained in the UK, including a 12-month fellowship in head, neck, and skin cancer management. He established and chairs the Bay of Plenty skin cancer multidisciplinary meeting and contributes to the National Melanoma Working Group.
Now retired, Gary was a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Hutt Hospital and a founding partner in the establishment of Boulcott Clinic. He was instrumental in establishing MelNet (now Skin Cancer NZ) and has held national leadership roles in numerous organisations working in skin cancer and plastic surgery.
Julie is a finance professional with extensive experience across New Zealand and Australia in sectors including construction, manufacturing, property logistics, and not-for-profit. She has held senior leadership roles, leading finance and cross-functional teams, engaging with boards, and translating strategic objectives into actionable plans.
Karen is a board director and independent advisor with extensive experience in marketing, communications, and senior executive roles across family-owned and multinational organisations. She has a family connection to skin cancer, which drives her focus on sun protection and skin cancer prevention.
Renata is a fundraising professional with over 15 years’ experience supporting purpose-driven organisations across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. She brings expertise in donor engagement, individual giving, and multi-channel fundraising campaigns, helping organisations strengthen supporter relationships.
