In her study "Healing The Heel: Early experience of BTM in a regional hospital", Emma Simpson found that Novosorb BTM can support healing of complex wounds, with one heel wound healing without the need for subsequent skin grafting.

A retrospective study from a regional hospital examined the use of Novosorb Biodegradable Temporising Matrix (BTM), a synthetic scaffold designed to support new dermal tissue formation in complex wounds before skin grafting. While most evidence on BTM has come from specialist burn and plastic surgery centres, this study describes its early use in a regional setting. In one case, healing over the BTM was so effective that a heel wound did not require subsequent skin grafting. The study also assessed time to delamination and skin graft survival, adding to the growing evidence on BTM use in complex wound management.

This study was presented as an e-poster at the 2026 NZ Skin Cancer Summit.
