It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of VALE Professor Richard Scolyer, AO.
Professor Scolyer was a world-leading pathologist whose work in skin cancer, particularly melanoma research, transformed the field and improved outcomes for countless patients. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to medicine and cancer research, he was named Australian of the Year in 2024.
We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at the Melanoma Institute Australia.
Professor Scolyer's legacy will live on through his groundbreaking work, his dedication to patients, and the many people he inspired throughout his career. He will always be remembered for his humility, courage and his determination to "give it a crack".
